Clinical resources for the work that doesn't fit in a textbook. Theese are built by a working therapist, for working therapists: practical, immediately usable, and made for the cases that keep you up on Sunday night.
Every clinician knows the feeling: it's nine o'clock on a Sunday, you have a hard session in the morning, and the 300-page textbook on your shelf isn't going to help. That's the gap these resources were built to fill.
Resources
The Couples Room
The Couples' Room is a clinical reference series for therapists who work with couples in the hardest relational moments: infidelity, high conflict, broken trust, mismatched desire, and more. Each booklet gives you the clinical landscape, the intake questions that matter, a clear way to sequence the work, in-session exercises, and licensed client worksheets you can use in practice tomorrow.
Private Practice Toolkit
The Private Practice toolkit covers the other side of the work: the contracts, intake systems, policies, and business tools that keep a practice running well and ethically. These are the documents and systems I built for my own agency, refined in real practice, and made available so you don't have to build them from scratch.
No jargon. No filler. Just the tools I reach for myself.
Forms & Questioners
Clinical Note-Taking Companion
A structured note-taking system for busy clinicians. Session note templates, prompts, and formats that keep your documentation thorough without eating your evenings. Built to hold up to clinical, ethical, and audit standards while staying fast to complete between sessions.
The Intake Companion
Your first-session co-pilot. A guided companion that walks you through what to gather, what to ask, and what to notice during intake — so nothing important slips through in that critical first meeting. Works alongside your intake forms to turn a first session into a clear clinical picture.
The Couples Intake Guide & Templates
Intake built specifically for couples work, where you're taking in two histories, one relationship, and everything happening between them. Includes the couples intake guide, partner-specific intake templates, relationship history frameworks, and the questions that surface what's really going on before the work begins.
About
My name is Maria Orrego
I am a Registered Psychotherapist and the Founder and Clinical Director of Restoration Mental Health Agency.
My clinical work centres on couples therapy, infidelity recovery, desire and intimacy, and the relational wounds that don't fit neatly into a treatment manual. I've spent my career in the rooms where the hardest conversations happen.
I created the resources here on Beyond The Textbook like: The Couples' Room and The Private Practice toolkit because I was tired of watching good clinicians lose sleep over cases and business decisions that actually have a teachable structure. These are the references I wished I'd had earlier: practical, honest, and built to be used, not shelved.
I'm also the co-host of the podcast Spill the Tea and the voice behind Sex Off the Pedestal, where I talk openly about desire, intimacy, and the things we were never taught.
Whether I'm working with a couple, training a clinician, or building a resource, the goal is always the same: to make the work a little more human and a lot more doable.
